LGBT Choir

Glória, Dublin’s Lesbian & Gay Choir will join forces with Choral ConFusion, Cork’s new LGBT choir in an evening of song and celebration to raise funds for the Marriage Equality campaign. Hosted by Cork Action for Equality (CAFÉ), the event will take place in the splendour of St. Finbarre’s Cathedral (Dean St, Cork City) on June 9th at 8pm. Tickets are €15/€10 unwaged and available onwww.gloria.ie, from The Other Place in Cork City and on the door on the night.

So show YOUR True Colours …. ‘don’t be afraid to let them show’….. and join us on Saturday, June 9th in St. Finbarre’s Cathedral, Cork.

AGM, G’Oscars and Generally Awesome

AGM & G’Oscars: Wednesday 14th Civil Engineering Building G10 @ 7pm 
So the question is do you wanna be part of UCC’s Best Society and make it even better than next year? The positions up for grabs are Auditor, Campaigns Officer, Secretary, Rainboweek Convenor, Public Relations Officer,  Finance Officer and Events Officer. So if you’re interested in running for any position just drop us an email if you wanna know more info on any position. To be eligible to vote/run for a position you must have attended at least 3 events throughout the year and have signed the attendance sheet there. The position of Members Officer and Ex-officio are filled by the committee at a later date. 

The G’oscars will also be awarded at the AGM so if you have been a mess all year, shifted enough people you need two hands to count em all or dressed like a boss be prepared to get rewarded for all your hard work.

We Are Awesome Party: Wednesday 14th Chambers, Washington Street 10:30pm
To celebrate being UCC’s Best Society and to welcome the newly elected committee we will be having a huge party in Chambers. There will be so many free fish bowls you’ll wish you were a goldfish. the key to acquiring said fishbowls is to get in good and early and bring as many friends as possible. So the more actually means the merrier. . . . literally.

Civil Partnership: Halfway to Marriage Equality?

Civil Partnership: Halfway to Marriage Equality? Tuesday at 6pm in Kane G7, We have a UCC Greens and UCC LGBT Society Collaborative Event. Roderic O’Gorman, Lecturer in Constitutional Law and Green Party Adviser in the creation of the 2010 Civil Partnership Act, will talk about some of the achievements of this legislation so far, and where we Go from here. Q&A session to follow. Refreshments will be provided as always!

UCC Goes Dancing 2012

On Sunday 26th I, your awesome P.R.O, will be representing the society in this years UCC Goes
Dancing at 8pm in The Everyman Palace Theatre in aid of Marymount Hospice.
So do come along and vote for me/throw rotten vegetables. Its a great night
with some really good dancing from Dance Club.

Tickets are on sale in front of the library from 11am to 2pm everyday or on the Everyman’s website.

Also I suck and everyone else is awesom so it will also be hilarious.

Coffee and Germans!

Thursday 24th we have a Coffee Possé in the Pavillion at 7pm. We will be

meeting in front of the student centre at 6:30pm and will be walking into

the Pavillion for 7pm. Come for the coffee and the craic. For you coffee

haters they also serve tea . . . . .

Afterwards at 8pm we have a collaboration with German Soc. We will be watching a
lovely LGBT  German film at 8pm in Kane G19 Wednesday 23rd. Don’t worry if you
ain’t fluent, there’ll be subtitles!!!

EGM & Transamerica Screening

This week we have out EGM in Brookfielsd G10 @7pm on Wednesday 25th to
elect a new Finance Officer and an Events Officer. To be eligible to run or
vote you must have attended at least 3 of our events since September. If
anyone is interested in running and have any questions just drop us an
email.
The EGM will be followed by a screening of the Academy award nominated film “Transamerica“.

Rainbow Week 2012

Rainbow Week 2012 is almost upon us! Our Rainbow Week Convenor, Aaron, has a jam packed week of awesomeness planned for all of us! Here’s what we have in store for you all:

Monday 16th January
Opening Ceremony 
Common Room 12pm-1pm.
As a way to kick off Rainbow Week, We will be having refreshments and a social in the common room where you can come get a programme for the week and ask us any questions you have about the events! Nibbles and NOMS to be had!
Dance Club Performance
Amphitheatre 1pm-2pm
Dance Club will be giving a special performance of Lady Gaga’s ”Born This Way” in celebration of Rainbow Week, be amazed!
Gender Reassignment Surgery Discussion
Kane G19 7pm-9pm
In conjunction with the Philosophical and Surgical societies, a talk will be held to dicuss this very interesting topic, there will be guest speakers from TENI and more, aswell as a Q&A after each so come along and learn something new
Tuesday 17th
Sexual Empowerment workshop
WGB G05. 1PM 
The FUNNEST, AWESOMEST and BEST workshop ever is how I have heard this described.
Those of you who were at Pink Training may have already experienced this very popular workshop! Guest speaker, Billie, from the RedRibbonProject certainly knows her stuff and knows how to have a laugh, and anything goes, so if you haven’t been to it before, then it’s not to be missed! And if you have been before, then come along again, lots of fun to be had!
LGBT Comedy Show
Old Bar 7pm.
How many lesbians can you fit in a phonebox? How many Bi-sexuals does it take to screw in a lightbulb? If you so much as giggled reading this you MUST COME! Collaboration with Comedy Soc, this event is bound to be a good laugh with many stand-up performances and FOOD.
Wednesday 18th
Marriage Equality Talk/Workshop
ORB_123  7PM.
‘Did you know that there is almost 170 differences between Civil Partnership and full equal marriage? Marriage Equality is still a big issue in LGBT rights - this workshop highlights some of these differences and learn what you can do to help lobby the government and become an activist in the area’
UV Party
Freakscene 11pm
We’ll be meeting @ Suas at 10pm for those who don’t wanna go alone. There’ll be a professional face-painter on the night plus a dedicated photo booth with UV lights to capture the ultravioltastic mayhem!

So wear whites, fluorescents, UV contact lens, ultra-violet make-up, neon, UV wigs etc. Moonshine and Hallmark are offering a 10% discount on UV goods. Penneys sell UV nail-varnish. The Funky Skunk and Mad also sell make-up, UV lens etc…..

LGBT hate crime workshop

Karl Griffin, LGBT Garda Liaison Officer from Bridewell Garda Station will be talking about his experience dealing with victims of Hate Crime and highlighting his role as the Liaison Officer.
‘Hate Crime’ Movie Screening
Kane G2 7pm
Collaberation with with Film soc and CIT LGBT.  The movie ”Hate Crime” is about two recently married men starting a new life together before one is killed in an unprovoked Hate Crime and his husband fights for justice.
Friday 20th January
Transphobia in the workplace

Louise Hannon a Trans* woman who was recently in the media after winning a court case having been constructively dismissed for not being allowed to work as a Trans* person will be down to talk about her experience of Transphobia in the workplace and her endless activism since.
Dramat Play
Boole 1 7pm
In collaboration with the Drama society(Dramat) an LGBT-related play will be performed and is the final big event of Rainbow Week and so shouldn’t be missed! Also a night out session afterwards in Chambers/Rubys or wherever the night takes us, to celebrate the end of the week!’
