Society’s Main Aims and Objectives
- The main aim of the Society is to provide a safe space for our LGBT or otherwise identified members to relax and enjoy themselves in a prejudice and judgment free environment.
- We strive to achieve this by educating and raising awareness of LGBT issues through various Campaigns and events.
- We are primarily a Social Society with fun events where members can also come and get to know each other.
Welcome to the website of University College Cork’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans*(LGBT) Society!
My name is Aaron Blake and I am the Auditor of the Society for the academic year 2013/2014.
Firstly – a little about myself and my involvement in the Society.
I am a 4th year Physiology student and I have been involved in the LGBT Society since I came to UCC in September 2010.
I was first part of the committee in 2011/12 as Rainbow Week Convenor and Membership Officer 2012/13. Most recently, I was elected Auditor for the year 2013/14.
The main aim of the Society is to provide a safe space for our members and with the Society’s best interests at heart, that is also what I strive to achieve.
UCCLGBT has been fantastic over the past few years, winning numerous and varied awards(details of which can be found in the ‘Awards’ tab) and being involved in everything from hosting USI Pink Training to marching in several Pride events!
As such, I would like to maintain the reputation and strength that the Society has built over the previous years. Of course, without our members, there would be no LGBT Society – therefore, in a note to anybody thinking of joining the Society; I would encourage you to get involved; whether you’re nervous /shy or have a burning activist desire – UCC LGBT endeavours to accommodate both the social and educational aspects of our community.
Finally, I would just like to thank you for reading this short little intro! I hope you enjoy exploring the website and it answers any queries you may have – however, if it does not, then feel free to email us! firstname.lastname@example.org
