Slight change of time for AGM- and other news!
Hey everybody,
While you’re no doubt enjoying the St.Patrick’s day festivities (in
moderation, of course) your friendly PRO is toiling away on society matters.
Just as well then, that tomorrow night, a whole new committee is going to be
elected!
Due to the final Class Council of the year taking place early tomorrow
evening, we are moving the time of our AGM to a later-than-usual 9pm. The
location stays the same. (Electrical Engineering L3.)
We look forward to seeing you at the AGM- whether you’re a candidate, an
ordinary member of the society, or just an observer. This is an excellent
chance to review the highs and lows of the year, and to propose suggestions
for the incoming committee on how to build on the successes of 2008/2009.
-Speaking of which, the Goscars, our annual celebration of the year, which
incorporates the glittering awards ceremony that gives the night its title-
will be taking place next Wednesday night. Times and locations will be
circulated shortly. As one of our final events of the year, we look forward
to seeing as many of you there as possible for what is one of the great
nights in the LGBT Society social calender.
-You may be aware from the post on our website that the LGBT Society this
year triumphed at the Societies Guild STARS awards. We took the silverware
for Best Poster and Best Social/Religious Society. Pictures from the night
will be posted on the site shortly. This Thursday at the Clubs & Socs Ball,
we’ll be challenging for best PR & Promotion, and Best Small Society. The
competition in both categories is fierce but we have a shot at it! Anyone
wishing to join the LGBT Society table at the ball need only come over and
say hi.
-We have good news with regard to the UCCSU’s proposal to abolish the
position of LGBT Rights Officer within USI (Union of Students in Ireland).
Following consultations with various parties within the Students’ Union,
including the Welfare Officer and the President, we are pleased to announce
that the proposal is to be dropped, and the SU have acknowledged errors in
the handling of this matter.
Our Campaigns Officer, and SU Welfare Officer elect Rebecca Murphy will
tomorrow, in her capacity as Class Rep, propose a motion that will
strengthen consultation and consensus building in the SU in relation to
future USI motions. We feel that this is a positive step that will
strengthen democracy and help prevent a similar mistake in the future.
The ‘Statement of Clarification and Explanation on LGBTRO issue’ released
by Keith O’Brian, SU Welfare Officer (Frostreaver on the forum), is viewable
on this forum thread http://bb.ucc.ie/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=17987, and we
encourage you to read it.
Over and out.
