*Of Interest*

Hi Everyone! Below is another mail that we got, that could be of interest to some of our Cork members…
“Hey guys i’m formally announcing what the first production will be for Cork’s new LGBT theatre group,The Wild Ensemble. The play we’ve chosen is Anthony Burgess’ darkly satirical black comedy A CLOCKWORK ORANGE.

It’s going to be a pretty complex production so i’m gonna need as much help as possible with it.For one i need the services of somebody with a pretty vast musical knowledge (not that the play’s a musical as it isn’t) as the play features the music of Beethoven quite frequently so whoever can help me out here would be playing a massive part in the production.

I also will possibly be needing a projector for the second and third acts of the play and will be needing very specific footage too although that isnt a major issue at the moment.

If anybody has any background in styling or costume design id love to see ye as even though i have quite strong ideas for how to dress the characters ideally id like collaborate with somebody who has their own ideas to bring to the table as well.

Also, crucially, the play has a pretty big cast so we need actors who are willing to come onboard and give it their all. It’s fantastic material and anybody who’s cast will be rewarded with said material.Auditions will take place in The Other Place in June, with an exact date yet to be determined.I want to avoid clashing with Pride so it will more than likely be the latter half of June.

The group’s committee-myself,Kate Gaffney,Clive Davis and Jonathan P Neville will be having our first meeting about the production at some stage next week so we will have more details for ye after that.

I see major potential here with the project and if we all work together on it we can make some waves!
Thanks a mill guys!
John Hayes”

Hi Everyone. Below is a forwarded email that some of ye may be interested in:

Hi there,
As some of you know I’m putting together an Arts Council application (due this Fri) to facilitate LGBT Youths (18-23) to produce and perform in their own CABARET in Cork in December.
As part of supporting documentation required for the funding proposal I need emails from young people saying they would be interested in possibly getting involved in the project.
If you could send me a brief email to this effect that would be great!
Thanks Girls.
Best wishes,
Evelyn Quinlan

Civil Partnership Debate in Dublin Next Week

On Thursday, April 29th at 6.30. Griffith College Dublin, on the South Circular Road will be holding a debate on the Civil Partnership Bill.

As it advances through the Oireachtas, the debate in the LGBT community about the Bill continues to rage. The Griffith LGBT have organised a debate to give expression to the wideranging discussion within the wider LGBT community.

Speaking in favour of the Civil Partnership bill is Roderic O’Gorman. Roderic was a former Green Party candidate in the recent local elections and 2007 general elections. He is the author of the Green Party’s relationships policy and party adviser on the drafting of the bill. He is also a Constitutional and EU Law lecturer in Griffith College.

Speaking against the Civil Partnership Bill is Senator David Norris. Senator Norris is a leading human rights advocate. He was first elected to the Seanad in 1989. He was the first ever openly gay member of the Oireachtas. He remains Irelands most senior openly gay elected official. His victory in the landmark Norris v Ireland case lead directly to the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Ireland.
