Civil Partnership Debate in Dublin Next Week
On Thursday, April 29th at 6.30. Griffith College Dublin, on the South Circular Road will be holding a debate on the Civil Partnership Bill.
As itĀ advances through the Oireachtas, the debate in the LGBT community about the Bill continues to rage. The Griffith LGBT have organised a debate to give expression to the wideranging discussion within the wider LGBT community.
Speaking in favour of the Civil Partnership bill is Roderic O’Gorman. Roderic was a former Green Party candidate in the recent local elections and 2007 general elections. He is the author of the Green Party’s relationships policy and party adviser on the drafting of the bill. He is also a Constitutional and EU Law lecturer in Griffith College.
Speaking against the Civil Partnership Bill is Senator David Norris. Senator Norris is a leading human rights advocate. He was first elected to the Seanad in 1989. He was the first ever openly gay member of the Oireachtas. He remains Irelands most senior openly gay elected official. His victory in the landmark Norris v Ireland case lead directly to the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Ireland.
