Blood Ban Campaign – Summary
The campaign was a success. We managed to secure 200 signatures from UCC Students who signed our petition calling on the Irish Blood Transfusion Service to review the outright ban which prohibits men who have had sex with men from ever donating blood.
The campaign consisted of a stand on campus with many members of the Campaigns Sub-Committee helping out. We had a poster and banners with the word ”Give Blood Because We Can’t” written on. The Auditor of the Atheist Society collaborated with us on this campaign as this was an issue she felt passionately about.
We secured a lot of media coverage in UCC with a feature article, news article and photograph in the Express and a current affairs article in Motley magazine.
The petition and signatures were sent to the Irish Blood Transfusion Service and we are awaiting a response from them.
