*March for Marriage*

Today is the day the Civil Partnership Bill will be voted in by the Dail. Noise believes that LGBT people shouldn’t have to settle for half measures and second-class citizenship. So they have announced the date of the March for Marriage 2010- Sunday 22nd of August!

Last year a vibrant crowd of over five thousand people marched through the streets of the capital demanding full equality in the form of civil marriage.

Civil Partnership lacks many of the rights of Civil Marriage. The children of LGBT families are ignored by this bill. Civil Partnership forces vulnerable couples to participate in their own discrimination out of a basic necessity to protect themselves in whatever way they can. A separate system for certain citizen sends the message out to the rest of society that LGBT people can be treated differently and discriminated against in other areas.

Noise asks all those who support equal rights to gather their friends and family together to march with Noise on August 22nd. Further details and after-march party to be announced. Add LGBT Noise on Facebook or join their mailing list for updates.

***** Literati *****

The Book for this month’s The Other Place Literati book club is Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman,

The blurb:

Fat Charlie is not having a good week, His estranged father recently dropped dead on a karaoke stage and has left Fat Charlie with much more than just embarrassment. Because, you see, Charllie has discovered that his dad wasn’t just any old dad. He was Anansi the trickster spider-god. Anansi is the spirit of rebellion, able to overturn the social order, create wealth out of nothing and even baffle the devil. No wonder Fat Charlie’s life is about to be turned upside down

That book club meeting is taking place on Tuesday, 13th of July in The Other Place Cafe.

The Nuts and Bolts of Civil Partnership- from Dublin Pride

If you are around Dublin next week, then this is definitely a must-go-to!

DUBLIN PRIDE 2010 – The Civil Partnership Bill:

The ‘Nuts and Bolts’ of Civil Partnership and Cohabitation

Tuesday 22nd June
Wood Quay Venue, Dublin City Council Civic Offices
6.30pm – 8.30pm
Chair: Rory O’Neill (aka Ms. Panti)
Dr. Fergus Ryan        Civil Partnerships: How to get one and what will it mean?
Lecturer in Law,
Dublin Institute of Technology
& Board member of GLEN.

Muriel Walls               If we just live together, how will the Bill effect us?
Family Law Solicitor
& Board member of GLEN.

Pat O’Brien                The Taxation Implications of a Civil Partnership
Director – Human Capital
Ernest & Young.
The Civil Partnership Bill is currently working its way through the Dáil and all indications are that it will be law before the end of 2010. This will allow lesbian and gay couples to become Civil Partners early in 2011. The Bill contains an additional section which will provide limited protections and obligations for cohabiting same-sex couples.
What will CP mean? How will we get one? What rights will we have? What will our obligations to each other be?  If we just live together, have we new rights, and new responsibilities?
This session will give information on the extent of the rights and responsibilities that come with Civil Partnership, and with the cohabitation part of the bill.
All Welcome
Wine & Nibbles

Dublin Pride Sports Day

It’s that time of year again! Dublin Pride is but a few weeks away and the excitment is building!!! All the Pride events are now up on their Website and Facebook page. There is veritable rainbow of events, some familar and and some new ones too.

The focus of this post is on Dublin Pride Sports Day. They had a great turnout last year and this year are plan to increase attenance again. There will be numerous competitions taking on the day, some serious and some that will be just plain daft. They plan to have something to interest everybody!

They’re also having a World Cup of Rounders which they would very much like each LGBT sport group to get together a team for. A special trophy will be given to the winner and hopefully will become more coveted as this event grows year by year. If you would like to enter your team please send a quick mail to events@dublinpride.ie.

Dublin Pride Sports Day is taking place on Sunday 20th of June at the Papal Cross in the Phoenix Park. Also taking place that day is the family picnic and the Zoo Day out. After all the fun and games there will be be a sports awards ceremony at Panti Bar where a special guest will be handing out some extra prizes.

They’re looking to having a great afternoon and if the weather keeps up, a great tan too!

Many thanks for taking the time to read this and don’t forget to tell your friends and family about this event too. This year’s Pride theme is “We are Family Too” and Dublin Pride want to show this theme at all of their events.

You can get the poster and some of the event details on their facebook page http://www.facebook.com/DublinPride?v=app_2344061033&ref=ts#!/event.php?eid=130157757001687&index=1
